Nevada Legacy Corps Programs and Services.
We at the Nevada Legacy Corps (NLC) are keenly aware of the stress, sleeplessness, lack of time for personal chores and just plain absense of fun suffered by the thousands of mostly family caregivers who are selflessly taking care of eldery or disabled relatives throughout northern Nevada.
We have made it our mission to provide respite for both family and professional caregivers by assuming your responsibilities from one to four hours a day, thus allowing you the much needed time to attend to personal matters and, hopefully, to also get away and rejuvenate yourself with enjoyable activities.
Since we are a nonprofit organization largely supported by the contributions of the caregivers we serve, we do ask that you make a small donation to the NLC for each hour of service we provide. Your single donation covers the cost of both volunteers. We realize that some families have limited financial resources and we will gladly work out a payment schedule that is affordable to you. No one is turned away so long as we have volunteers available.
It should be emphasized that the NLC is a respite provider and we do not engage in medical activities. However, our volunteers are trained in CPR and are familiar with the proper procedures to take in the event of medical emergencies.
While you are away, you may rest assured that our two team members will do their best to engage your loved one in friendly and invigorating conversation. We have found that having someone new to talk to often stimulates the mind of the homebound patient, and quite often brings back warm and loving memories of meaningful events in their lives.
If the patient is non-conversant, our volunteers will be happy to read to them, share the enjoyment of television programs they like or participate in other fun activities. Bringing a smile to the face of a disabled or elderly member of our community is one of the greatest rewards our volunteers receive.
Any services we provide to you and your loved one are treated in a strictly confidential manner by the NLC, and the privacy of your home is regarded as sacrosanct by our carefully screened volunteers.
