Become a Nevada Legacy Corps Volunteer

Now's your chance to reap the wondrous psychological and spiritual rewards that come from helping a neighbor in need!

The NLC is looking for dedicated volunteers who are able to donate a modest number of hours each month to providing respite to caregivers who are frequently overworked, deprived of personal time and suffering under considerable stress.

Your primary responsibility will be to watch over and provide companionship to homebound elderly or disabled individuals, thus allowing their caregivers the opportunity to attend to urgent personal needs or simply to enjoy some rejuvenating fun activities.

Your typical duties will include engaging your charges in stimulating conversation, reading to those with sight problems, assisting individuals with ambulatory problems to get around their homes and bringing them approved food, drinks and snacks.

In return for your service you will be paid a monthly stipend plus reimbursement for your mileage. We ask that our volunteers put in a minimum of 400 to 450 hours of service per year.

You will also receive training in CPR and pre-service, in-service, hospice and Alzheimer certification. Your training will allow you to better understand and deal with the ailments that most commonly afflict the elderly and disabled.

The NLC provides a volunteer friendly and supportive work atmosphere and many of our members become good and lasting friends. To join our family please click on the links below, download and fill out both the University of Maryland Member Application and the Americorps Enrollment Form, then mail or bring the forms in to either our Carson City or Reno office.

Thank you.
