Youth Service Opportunities and Scholarships
We at the Nevada Legacy Corps encourage our neighborhood youth between the ages of 16 to 19, or until college graduation, to join our family of volunteers. Our youth volunteers received a monthly stipend to cover living and volunteer expenses plus college scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,600.
Both the amount of the monthly stipend you receive and the amount of the scholarship awarded to you will depend on which youth program you choose and how many hours of volunteer work you perform.
If you are below 18 years of age, you must have parental or guardian authorization to apply for our programs. Those 18 or over will be subject to a background check. You must also be a U.S. citizen or legally in the U.S.
The University of Maryland Center on Aging scholarship involves 150 hours of service, including 40 hours of pre-service, in-service, hospice and Alzheimer certification. The Corporation for National and Community Service Program and Scholarship is a two-part award that requires 450 hours of service per year, to include 90 hours of pre-service, in-service, hospice and Alzheimer certification.
Both programs offer you the opportunity to work with an adult member of the Corps and gain firsthand knowledge of how to deal with the more common ailments afflicting the elderly and disabled, skills that will serve you well throughout your life.
Details concerning the exact amount of the monthly stipend your will receive and the scholarship opportunities available will be given to you during your interview process.
We at the NLC feel that our Youth Scholarship Program is an invaluable opportunity for our younger citizens to help our neighbors in need, earn money and win a scholarship to college.
